A Doll’s House - A Spatio Audio Performance
A Doll’s House is an interactive audio spatial experience that invites the audience to respond to everyday conversations in the home, exposing invisible reproductive labor within families. As the audience speaks, the sound transforms into the noise of a vacuum cleaner. This sound stands as a stronger, authoritative voice, and muted the female voice even though it's subtle within 2mm. This project breaks conventional ways of viewing moving images, immersing the audience in a physical home where their voices are lost, empowering them by triggering a shift in their mindset to find meaning outside the family.
Interactive immersive experience visualizing the unseen reproductive labour.
“Undoubtedly, housework is a form of
labor that holds value, regardless of
whether it generates income or not. If
a housewife does not perform these
duties, someone else must carry out
these tasks. Therefore, it is essential
and indispensable labor. However, despite the crucial role that
housework plays in society, house-
wives are often left in a vulnerable po-
sition with no legal or financial rights.”

Sound Collection and Editing
The audio for A Doll’s House is collected from reality, replacing the manufactured reality presented in Chinese TV. The animation's visuals represent the unpaid labor theory by Chizuko Ueno, using everyday objects within the family as metaphorical representations of the Absentee Father and Cui Sheng Culture in China. The animation loops itself to demonstrate a generational tragedy.
